!🚨 UPDATES INCOMING 🚨!

this will be where marginalia’s newsletter lives from now on. this move will allow us to expand our reach, archive posts more easily, and develop a more interactive community.

for anyone new to marginalia, we use this platform to highlight awesome social scientists and their work. more information about our mission is described below.

we were on a podcast! two of our editors were just featured on the stanford psychology podcast to promote marginalia. take a listen & share with your friends and colleagues. link is here.

hi there!

to all the members of our community, both new and old, welcome to the next installment of marginalia science!

you're getting this newsletter because you have previously signed up for the newsletter that we distributed through gmail. we have decided to make the switch to substack for better accessibility and record keeping.

we have also had a change in leadership! the torch has been passed from the OG marginalia creators (ana gantman, hannah nam, laura niemi, & pia dietze) to a new leadership team, consisting of eliana hadjiandreou, ivy gilbert, jordan wylie, & minjae kim.

we will be sending out another post introducing our new team and some of the changes that we have underway in august. in the meantime, we wanted to restate our goals & values as a community of scholars (especially in light of recent twitter discourse):

we aim to promote the work of and uplift social scientists who are women, non gender conforming, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled or in any other way not promoted by the status quo in academia. this is because, we, like all of you, think it is important to challenge existing power dynamics, and create a space where the contributions of folks from marginalized communities are represented, recognized, and valued.

we will be resuming a monthly newsletter that includes a spotlit scholar, new papers, and information about conference activities like talks, posters, childcare coordinating, happy hours, etc in august.

that's it for now! if you have any suggestions for content you’d like to see added to the newsletter, please let us know!

we plan to use this platform to continue to build an inclusive community and to shine a light on all the amazing work done by its members. we also hope that this community can be a safe place to ask questions of one another that we may not feel comfortable asking in other forums. we are also excited about the offline possibilities of this kind of group -- i.e. getting to see each other (or meet for the first time!) at conferences, ask folks from the community to be guest speakers or in your symposiums, and invite or spread the word about other academic events in a relaxed and supportive manner.

and don’t forget to check out our recent podcast episode!
